The raising plate lifts the baseplate up, to give more room beneath the router to accommodate longer bits. Without it you have a depth of cut of about 22mm (with the yellow dust chute in place. We provided two 12mm raising plates to give 34 and 48mm depth of cut, with the kit.

You can add another extra 12mm plate and get 70mm if you can find the bits of that length.

We did supply one 25mm raising plate instead of the two 12mm plates but the two 12mm are easier to work with and can be bought separately.
